Heard of LASIK? The fact is I only heard of it today and I’m gonna tell you how beneficial it is.
LASIK (Laser-Assisted in Situ Keratomileusis) is a type of refractive laser eye surgery or a vision correction procedure performed by ophthalmologists for correcting myopia (nearsightedness), hyperopia (farsightedness), and astigmatism (blurring of one’s vision). The LASIK technique was made possible by the Colombia-based Spanish ophthalmologist Jose Barraquer who developed the first microkeratome - a surgical instrument used to cut thin flaps in the cornea and alter its shape.
How does LASIK Technology performed?
1. Create a flap of corneal tissue.
2. Remodeling of the cornea underneath the flap with the laser.
3. The flap is repositioned.
Sounds like PAIN. Ouch! But did you know that 95.4% of LASIK patients worldwide are satisfied with their results? LASIK operation is already well-established and has an exceptional track record. Nowadays, they include 3D mapping which makes it more accurate and safer than ever before.
Although it is a good alternative to wearing corrective eyeglasses or contact lenses but not all can undergo LASIK operation. Those with thin, irregularly shaped corneas are not qualified to take the operation. If ever you’re qualified and have decided to take the LASIK technology then I advice you to talk to people for more LASIK information and ask for referrals to find a good physician. And just remember that it is a surgery meaning things can go wrong so knowing the benefits and the risks are vital.
Benefits
1. Less time for the patient’s recovery
2. Patient feels less pain
Risks (less than 1%)
1. Dry eye
2. Double vision
But don’t worry because it will be resolve over time. So decide for yourself now.
