Canon 5D rumors - The 12.8-megapixels Canon EOS 5D makes a new D-SLR category, combining a full frame CMOS sensor with a lightweight, compact magnesium-alloy body. It features a second generation 35.8 x 23.9-millimeter CMOS sensor, 3 fps, 60-Large-JPEG-frame burst, and 0.2 second start-up time operation.
The CMOS advantage
Canon’s most recent CMOS sensor features 12.8-megapixels resolution and a 2nd-gen on-chip noise reduction circuitry. This effectively suppresses random noise and wipes out fixed-pattern noise for super clean, high-quality images.
The Full Frame sensor also bears the same angle of view as a 35 mm film camera. It creates a show depth-of-field, gorgeous background blur, and maintains the focal range of wide-angle lenses and the full capabilities of all EF lenses.
Delivering instantly usable JPEG images straight out of the camera without the need for post-production. Picture Style presets can be likened to various film types — each one offering a different color response. Photographers have command over contrast, sharpness, saturation, and color tone between each easily selectable preset.
New LCD monitor
The EOS 5D is suited with a new large-size high-resolution 2.5-inch 230K pixel poly-silicon TFT LCD monitor for better image review and menu readability. The improved screen maintains brightness and visibility all around a wide 170-degree angle of view, both horizontally and vertically, giving it easy to view images when the camera is mounted in a fixed position.
Auto Focus
A newly developed 9-point auto focus system features 6 additional invisible Assist AF points placed inside the spot-metering circle. These points fall into effect when the camera is changed to AI SERVO AF with the center focus point selected and are automatically employed to improve the camera’s subject tracking operation.
Connectivity
Photographers can work cable-free as full-frame image files can be transferred automatically through a wireless LAN to a PC in seconds with the optional Wireless File Transmitter WFT-E1.
A USB 2.0 Hi-Speed interface allows quick transfer of images from camera to PC. Good for photographing straight to hard drive with the camera attached to a PC in a studio environment, thus offering full screen previews of images as they are shot. The EOS 5D also features a video out interface to permit playback and review on a TV monitor and it’s PictBridge compliant to support direct printing to any compatible printing machine without the need for a PC.
Ergonomics and control
The ‘Premium EOS’ design features a magnesium alloy exterior with rubberized grip surfaces. The discreet and lightweight compact body measures just 152 x 113 x 75 millimeters and weighs only 810 grams.
Current camera settings can be saved and specified to the C (camera settings) position on the Mode Dial. This allows photographers to change quickly between two completely different camera set-ups without having to switch bodies — ideal for photographers who need to rapidly switch their cameras from an indoor to outdoor shooting condition.
