Adding computer RAM is the first thing you need to do if you plan to upgrade your computer. It is the easiest to install as well as the cheapest (less than a $100) in regards to optimizing your system. A single memory upgrade can be a solution if you don’t plan to buy a new computer system for another year. RAM or Random Access Memory is used by the system to store data for processing by a computer’s central processing unit (CPU), also known as the processor.
But you must be careful of what type of memory or RAM to buy because every Windows PC or Mac computers uses different memory modules. Like for example, the latest Apple iMac computers uses DDR2. It may sound techie for you but think of it as “a family of RAMs”. But adding memory can lead to problems if the wrong kind of RAM or size of memory module is used. Constant rebooting of your machine, unable to reboot, Blue Screen Of Death (BSOD), overheating are just few of the problems that may arise if you install the wrong type of memory.
If you’re an iMac user then I recommend you add iMac memory as soon as possible. The factory-built iMac isn’t optimized yet that’s why to achieve the maximum efficiency of your machine you need to upgrade its memory. Although its not really necessary but you’re only playing half-the-power of your machine.
A SODIMM, or small outline dual in-line memory module is a type of RAM built using integrated circuits. SODIMMS are often used in systems which have space limitations such as laptops or notebooks. A laptop user can boosts their system’s performance by adding a DDR PC2700 memory. You can choose whether to install the 256 , 512 or 1GB version depending on the specs of your notebook.
So upgrade your system’s memory now and get the most of your computer’s performance.
